Sergio Gor, director of the presidential staff office, announced the resignation of Shogan on Friday evening. Shogan has had the track since 2023.
“In the direction of @realdonaldtrump, the archivist of the United States was fired tonight,” Gor wrote on X. “We thank Colleen Shogan for her service.”

The movement is not unexpected. Mr. Trump told radio presenter Hugh Hewitt earlier this month that “we will have a new archivist.”
On Thursday, however, a senior archivist officer told CBS News that there was “no word that something is changing.”
“The archivist is looking forward to continuing her strong working relationship with the president and First Lady,” said the official at the time.
The archivist of the United States, which supervises the National Archives and Records Administration, is usually an apolitical role that receives little attention. But in the past, Mr. Trump pronounced anger to the agency, after it was an important player in the case about his mistreatment of classified records.
