Sonos scraping plans for Magsafe iPhone speaker

Sonos was planning to launch a Magsafe speaker for iPhones. The device would be attached to the back of iPhones and deliver louder, richer sound quality than the built -in speakers.

However, technical restrictions ultimately forced the company to suspend its plans.

Sonos presented a Magsafe -External speaker for iPhone

Sonos is known for its audio products, such as sound bars and speakers. It also launched his first high-end headphones, the Sonos Ace, in 2024. However, the company stood for a heavy 2024 because of the renewed app. Despite a lot of promise, the buggy and unfinished S2 app left the loyal fan base of the company frustrated. It eventually led to the expulsion of the CEO, Patrick Spence, and a reduction in the workforce.

Before they launched the Buggy app, Sonos -Menieurs reportedly worked on a Magsafe speaker for the iPhone. It would be magnetically confirmed at the back of the device, but relies on Bluetooth for music streaming, because Magsafe does not support data transfer. The Verge reports that Sonos had the speaker in mind with a rectangular design, where the prototypes had a design similar to Apple’s Magsafe battery, albeit thicker.

Sonos apparently intended to use his transducer technology to improve sound quality, despite the compact size of the speaker. Ultimately, the company decided not to launch the speaker because of “technical limitations, questionable profession and a limited target market.” Regarding the transducer -tech, Sonos made it debut last year on his Arc Ultra Soundbar.

The top priority of Sonos is to repair his buggy app

Because Sonos is now struggling to remain relevant and to be aimed at regaining customers’ trust after his buggy app, it is unlikely that the Magsafe speaker will ever see the daylight. As the former CEO of the company made clear, Sonos number one is a priority at the moment to solve all problems with his Buggy app.

There are some external magsafe speakers for iPhones. However, they are fairly simple and do not stand out for their sound quality.
