Nintendo Switch 2 Patent confirms the functionality of the mouse

Summary

  • It has been confirmed that the Joy-Cons on the Nintendo Switch 2 will also double like a mouse.

  • News about the functionality of the Joy-Con is due to a patent application.

  • The Joy-Cons can apparently be used as double mice or combined with a standard Joy-Con.

The worst kept secret of the gaming industry, the Nintendo Switch 2, was finally unveiled last month, with more information that was unveiled at the beginning of April. That said, the unveiling was rather anti -climatic speaking the number of leaks that the console experienced in the days, weeks and months before the announcement.

Yet there is a lot to be enthusiastic about the Nintendo Switch 2, including the presence of a new Mario Kart, plus the confirmation that Metroid Prime 4 will launch this year. That excitement also has the new Joy-Cons, of which it is rumor that they also double as a functional mouse. Now, through a new patent application, so much has been confirmed.

The mouse is real, people

As spotted on Twitter on Twitter by Wario64 for the first time, a patent application has confirmed that the upcoming Joy-Cons will also double like a mouse. In particular it indicates:

The sensor for mouse processing detects light from a detected surface, the light that changes by moving over the detected surface in a state in which the first side surface or the second side surface is placed on the detected surface.

Various recorded design schedules also show how Nintendo wants to use his Joy-Cons.

It seems that it will be possible to use one Joy-Con in a traditional way, while the second Joy-Con is used as a mouse. A machine reversal of the patent application states that “the user can use one of the first input device 1 and the second input device 2 as a mouse and the other of the first input device 1.”

Moreover, it seems possible to use both Joy-Cons as a mouse at the same time, although it is unclear how that would play. “If the first input device 1 and the second input device 2 each have a mouse work sensor, each of the first input device 1 and the second input device 2 can be used as a mouse,” the patent application says.

However, one thing is certain, if the April presentation does not already have to look, then this new patent application will certainly make it that way. It will be interesting to see how Nintendo integrates the mouse in his games next to the obvious RTS and TBS functionality.
