New Shield TV update is the first in more than two years – what to expect

The first large and generally available Nvidia Shield TV update that has been released in more than two years has now been rolled out for users, and it brings a lot of bugfixes.

It is now more than five years since the last Shield TV was released, but the hardware continues to puff and is still actively supported by Nvidia. The last widely available update was released in November 2022, and now a new update is finally available.

Shield Experience 9.2 started rolling out all Shield TV devices this week. The update was made available early via a Hotfix program from October, as we reported.

The final release of this update provides a great help from Bugfixes to the Shield TV, including problems with fast-forward and rewind in playing music problem during casting, and more.

In addition to Bugfixes, Shield Experience 9.2 also brings a few new functions and possibilities to the shield, including an improved match frame speed function in beta and the possibility to erase an HDMI 1.4 flag during a factory reset. The biggest change is support for AURO-3D, which means that “high resolution is compelling sound” via HDMI via a compatible decoder.

However, there is one hiccup. As was the case with an earlier Hotfix release, the final release of Shield Experience 9.2 Google Home Integration can break on Shield TV. Your shield will be removed from the Google Home app after the update, so that you have to add it manually after the fact.

Shield Experience 9.2 is now being rolled out to protect TV devices and the entire Changelog follows:
