The Indianapolis Colts More needed on the defensive side of the ball to smooth the transition from the new coordinator Lou Anarumo in 2025. Safety is probably the greatest need for minus cornerback.
Julian Blackmon (free) and Nick Cross (Strong) take the starting rolls, but the first is probably on the way to a free desk and, unless Indy signs him cheaply, a new team for the first time in his career.
With that reality a very real possibility, this means that free agency or the design areas, general manager Chris Ballard, is tackling this.
Nfl.com Had a piece by Kevin Patra with details about the needs of each AFC team that is being tackled by movements outside the season. It is not surprising that Patra fits two names for Indy for Indy: Jevon Holland and Tre’von Mohrig.
Someone like Jevon Holland would swim if the dolphins let him hit the open market. Another name to look at: Tre’von Moehrig, from Vegas, who may not be that well known, but his tape was excellent in 2024

Holland is a mainstay for the Miami Dolphins Defense, collecting 301 tackles, 5.0 bags, 25 passes defended, five interceptions and five forced mess through his four NFL seasons.
Holland is free safety with the skills that fit well with the Anarumo schedule, making the lace -up coordinator a defender with diversity of his capacities on the field.

As far as Moehrig is concerned, he is a name that will fly under the radar, but his production on the field may make him a fantastic addition to the defense of Indy.
Moehrig had his best season in 2024 and brought solid figures for the Las Vegas Raiders With 104 tackles (five for loss), 10 steps defended, two interceptions and a few reclaimed mess.
This type of playing capacity is what Indy missed in 2024 with Blackmon who regressed, so a Moehrig signing can be something that the front office of the Colts creates a deal.
Our top 50 NFL free agents will post on ESPN next week.

Whether the Colts repair their free safety problems in the design or the free agency is not relevant, what is the most important thing is that they strengthen that part of the field. It was too easy in 2024 for Quarterbacks to dissect the secondary of the Colts and to have efficient, sometimes comfortable versions.
Ballard spoke in his press conference at the end of the season that the secondary should be better, and he is right. If Indianapolis wants a chance to finally make the late season, free safety must be safe in addition to cross.
We will see what Ballard decides to do in a free agency with a lot of talent available to sign.
