I spent a lot of time testing headphones and I find a new favorite with every new release. But headphones will always have a special place in my heart: the Beats Solo3 on-ear headphones.

The SOLO3 aroused my passion for headphones; They were the first pair I spent more than $ 50 on. I bought a rose gold couple in high school with the money from my first job, and they stayed with me during university. I still have them, but years of use have burned out the audio components and worn out the ear cushions.
So, when Beats offered me some of the new Solo4 -Headphones To test, I was more than happy to see how the company used the eight years since the release of the SOLO3 to improve the Solo4.
The SOLO4 design shows the deviation from beats of flashy, chrome accents decorated with heavy branding, transition to a muted matte finish with simplistic elements. I think Apple may have influenced these design choices. The SOLO4 throws away the MINI USB port and has a USB-C port for charging and loss-free audio instead. You can now also connect the headphones to a device to listen and at the same time charge them.

I tried the solo4 cans in cloud pink to activate nostalgia for my rose gold solo3. The cloud pink Solo4 is beautiful and aesthetically attractive, making it suitable for people who like stylish devices. In terms of Audio, Beats has given the Solo4 headphones a much needed adjustment. If you gave birth to Beats earlier because of their incredibly bass-forward sound, you will sound much better the Solo4.

One of the Beats taglines for the Solo4 is “great sound. Simplified”, and I no longer agreed. Instead of offering an artificially pumped, bass -heavy sound profile, the headphones have the most neutral sound I have ever heard of Beats. It is still not whole Neutral, but undoubtedly neutral according to the standards of beats.
I listened to Kendrick Lamar ADHD And immediately noticed the modest bass response of the SOLO4. Because the Bas did not overwhelm the midrange, I was able to appreciate small details in the song, such as Lamar’s layered vocals and the psychedelic synth sounds in the upper midrange. Beats says that upgraded transducers improve high -frequency reactions and passive coordination helps to maintain sound quality over wired and wireless connections. I agree.
Just like any other pair in the solo-line-up, the Solo4 are on the ear, so that the cups are on your ear instead of enveloping them like an over-ear headphones. The Cups of the SOLO3 are once a bit larger, but the new Ultraplush Earbeker filling of the SOLO 4 is more comfortable.
Despite the new filling, I couldn’t wear these cans long. Headphones on the ear are never comfortable for me because I wear four earrings in each of my ears. After about 30 minutes of wear, the earbuds exerted too much pressure on my earrings, so I had to take a break. The on-ear fit of the Solo4 should not disturb listeners with glasses, but I would avoid them if you have multiple ear piercings.
The headphones have no noise reduction or transparency modes, but their passive noise insulation is impressive. If you think that the transparency mode on other headphones too many noise and noise suppressing blocks brings in too much noise, the natural sound insulation of the SOLO4 is the perfect central ground.
The Solo4 are the first pair in the Solo line that receives personalized spatial audio, and I don’t have much to say about it. I am not a fan of spatial audio and it completes the battery of your headphones. The spatial audio function works – and it works well – but I prefer audio regularly. Speaking of the lifetime of the battery, offering the SOLO4 headphones for up to 50 hours of continuous play, another 10 hours than SOLO3.

Just like last year’s Beats Studio Pro, the Solo4 has increased interoperability with iOS and Android devices. For iOS fans, the headphones offer iCloud pairs, full access to Siri, find my, over-the-air software updates and transfer.
Android users can find Google Fast Pair, Bluetooth Multipoint, Google find my device and the Beats Companion app.
ZDnet’s buying advice
The new Beats Solo 4 Headphones provide style and functionality for music lovers. If you were not a fan of the characteristic sound of beats in the past, I challenge you to try the Solo4 – they can change your mind. A comment about their fit: If headphones in the ear are the desired style, you cannot go wrong with the SOLO4. But if you prefer headphones over-ear, you can find the SOLO4 uncomfortable.
If you are a loyal fan of Beats, but Beats want more premium functions, try the Studio Pro; You can find them regularly for $ 250 or less.
If you want over-ear headphones in a similar price range Sennheiser Accentum Plus or the Audio-Technica ATH-M50XBT2.
