As a big fan of ARPGS, action games from third parties such as Dark Souls and the hectic horde survival of Vampier survivors, I have noticed new Steam Roguelike Hordes of hunger Because I saw it at Gamescom 2024. By giving you more direct control over your character, it looks more like a run-based diablo than the automatic attacking nature such as Vampire Survivors, with all those delicious upgrade choices we have come To expect in everything, from Hades to Dead cells. Now PCGAAMN can exclusively reveal when you can play the full game – and you can now try the new demo.
After having spent some time viewing hordes of hunger, my first comparison was that it feels like a more detailed version of the Wave Survival mode from Diablo 4, Infernal Hordes. Although the overall structure is very related to Roguelikes such as Vampier survivors, developer HyperStrange pushes the boat a little more. Pull the camera all the way out and hungry hunger feels much closer to games such as Diablo; Push it right in, and you have an over-the-shoulder perspective that feels somewhere between Dark Souls and Dynasty Warriors.

Every wave, you will have goals to complete – sometimes that is as simple as stopping the incoming sample mass, but on other points you might have to help survivors or win back food stores to feed hunger. Regardless of your goal, you have to cut through thousands of vicious beings that you consider as a tasty snack. While you are deleted through it, you will regularly receive upgrade choices with three options that are presented with each milestone, so that you can tighten your build in whatever direction you choose.
Because hordes of hunger is a little more led than people as vampire survivors, enemies actually attack you when they come close instead of just damaging you by proximity. You see indicators flashing while they are preparing to strike so that you can leave or use an avoidance or parry. There is a short sidestep that is fast and can be upgraded, or a longer dashboard with a number of invincibility frames to get you out of stickier situations, and the parry can be improved with skills that can provide harmful counterattacks.
As you survive for longer, the story of HyperStrange starts to introduce itself. I only got a short glimpse of this during my preview, but there is an intriguing ‘real world’ element in the vein of the Matrix of Assassin’s Creed. On certain points, a wave of light everything around you freezes in place, giving you the chance to fight or return to the sanctum in the game hub style, where your parents live. There you can adjust your weapons and cook meals for buffs to start your next run.
While HyperStrange is preparing for the launch, it also has an updated, extensive steam demo that you can try. This includes more skill trees, armsup grades and character progression than the previous free trial period. You can also test the improved Parry System, and there is an in-game feedback form if you want to give extra thoughts to make hungry hunger even better with release.
PCGAAMN is delighted to reveal that hordes of hunger launches at Steam in Early Access Thursday 6 March 2025. If you are curious to try earlier, you can now download the demo to see what it’s all about, add it to your wish list if you want to be informed when it spends.
